DEVICE FOR FASTENING TIES TO PREVENT THEIR SPLINTING Russian patent published in 2000 - IPC

FIELD: railway transport; permanent ways; repair of ties. SUBSTANCE: device has parallel conveyers, mechanisms for positioning the ties, compressing the ties and shearing off screw heads, and reversible spindle heads arranged between conveyers for movement from one conveyer to the other. Spindle heads are designed for drilling holes, cutting thread in holes and driving in screws. Each conveyer is made in form of chute with endless chain drive provided with pusher mounted along chute axis. Tie positioning mechanism is made in form of pushed set into action by power cylinder to provide longitudinal displacement of tie by its rear face in direction of displacement, and brake lever also operated by power cylinder for applying braking force to side surface of tie. Tie compressing mechanism is made in form of one-arm pressure lever whose pressing part is in contact with cam set into operation by power cylinder. Screw head shearing off mechanism is made in form of knife mounted flush with side surface of tie at side of screw driving. Knife is operated by power cylinder and is provided with conical starting hole with ring cutting edge.
