FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: drive mechanism of internal combustion engine consists of cylinder with opposed pistons rigidly connected by two gear racks. Gear sector with drive shaft is installed on axles between racks. Length of semicircle of gear sector is equal to piston stroke. Gear sector, at side of teeth unmeshing, is cut off by height of tooth perpendicular to diameter of semicircle. Two grooves are made on gear racks with radius equal to radius of gear sector semicircle. Grooves are displaced relative to each other through value equal to piston stroke. EFFECT: simplified design of mechanism converting reciprocation of piston into rotation of engine drive shaft and increased efficiency of transformation of gas pressure in cylinder into torque on engine shaft. 3 cl, 3 dwg
