SUBSTANCE: invention relates to device and method of separation of packs or groups of flat articles, each containing preset number of articles, to be continuously delivered to packing machine. Proposed device has channel for moving the articles and large number of separating pins intercoupled with channel which can move along closed path. At least one pair of guides of equal length arranged one over the other is installed at each side of channel to form indicated closed path. Pairs of sliders are installed along guides, each slider carrying at least one separating pin. Phase shifter mounted on end of front part shifts first slider away from second slider of each pair for moving pack of articles away from following pack.
