FIELD: methods and devices for treatment of metal tapes or wires in vacuum. SUBSTANCE: method of treatment of metal tape or wire surface in vacuum at different stage of production process includes initiation of arc discharge and cleaning of tape or wire surfaces by arc cathode spots. In this case, tape or wire is introduced into vacuum chamber and withdrawn from vacuum chamber through corresponding baths with liquid metal or alloy. After cleaning, two layer-protective coatings are applied to surface. Device for the method embodiment has vacuum chamber with lock system and system for vacuum treatment, arc electrodes with power supply sources, metal tape transportation facilities, solenoid coil units located in electrode zone and coating application unit located along process path behind arc electrodes. Application of invention results in productivity, quality of article treatment and in reduction of environment pollution. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 4 cl, 1 dwg
