FIELD: electrified transport. SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in traction power supply systems for locating short-circuit fault. Current and voltage sensors are installed on adjacent traction substations. Recording unit, phase angle transmitters, substation resistances, contact system and rail track resistance-per-unit-length and substation-to- substation distance set-point devices, programmable multifunctional converters and programmable function converters are also provided. Fourth multifunctional converter is made for forming output signal characterizing distance from one of substations to short-circuit point realizing corresponding calculation algorithm depending on current of second substance, voltages across buses of first and second substations, signals formed by first and second multifunctional converters, signals formed at first and second outputs of third multifunctional converter, phase angle between current and voltage of second substation and distance between substations.
