FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: C8-C12-cycloalkanones, appropriate as intermediates in synthesis of lactams, aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, diamine monomers for production of polyamide fibers, plastics, new types of plasticizers, and other useful materials, are prepared by decomposition of products of liquid-phase oxidation of C8-C12-cycloalkanes by molecular oxygen, containing corresponding cycloalkyl hydroperoxides. Decomposition is carried out at elevated temperature in presence of catalyst based on chromium oxide on silicon oxide or alumina as carrier. Method is distinguished by that content of cycloalkyl hydroperoxides is 10-16 wt.% and catalyst contains 3-10 wt.% of chromium(II) oxide and, as promoter, 0.5-1 wt.% zinc oxide, whereas process is carried out for 1-2 h at 70-90 C.
