FIELD: cleaning materials. SUBSTANCE: polluted water-containing material is brought into contact with isocyanate-containing prepolymer, 1 wt part of which has been preliminarily (5-20 s before the use) mixed with 2 to 100 (preferably 5 to 50) wt parts of water, to form elastic foam, which is further removed. Method, in particular, can be applied to remove crude oil and other water-insoluble hydrocarbons from water. Consumption of prepolymer varies between 5 and 200, advantageously between 10 and 100 wt parts per 100 wt parts of pollutant. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of removing oil pollutants mediated by foam retaining pollutant on the surface of water longer than 2 days. 12 cl, 4 ex
