FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves applying standard analyzer of gas composition and pH of the blood. Real oxygen consumption values are measured and expected values are calculated from a formula. Expected oxygen consumption = 143.1+0.202 OFI+ 6.65 PaCO₂ - 0.0432 PaCO₂ - 7.89 PvO₂, where OFI is the oxygen flow index equal to product of oxygen concentration in arterial blood and heart index (ml m²/[min O₂]), PaCO₂ is the carbon dioxide stress in arterial blood in mm of mercury column, PvO₂ is the carbon dioxide stress in mixed venous blood in mm of mercury column. When oxygen consumption deficit OCD= Expected Oxygen Consumption - Real Oxygen Consumption is greater than 25, disorder in oxygen consumption by tissues is to be diagnosed.
