FIELD: medicine, biotechnology. SUBSTANCE: method of preparing shark cartilage extracts involves preparing a mixture of whole cartilage with an aqueous solution at neutral pH value, preferably with pure water. This mixture is centrifuged and sediment and supernatant after centrifugation are remained for the further treatment. Sediment after centrifugation is lyophilized and tested for the presence antitumor and antiangiogenic activities in vivo and in vitro in the presence or absence of supernatant. Supernatant was found to show antiangiogenic and tumor-regressing activities in vivo. After fractionation of supernatant some of its active components are characterized and these components show direct inhibiting effect on tumor cell strains. Methods provide preparing shark cartilage extracts enhancing the effectiveness of treatment of patients with angiogenesis-dependent diseases. EFFECT: improved method of preparing, enhanced effectiveness of treatment. 24 cl, 14 dwg
