FIELD: transport engineering; antitheft systems. SUBSTANCE: when car owner supplies locking and beacon codes by paging network to operating point, engine is locked and beacon type transmitter is started. Stationary transeivers installed in the streets are made for reception of beacon type transmitter signals, finding bearing, measuring signal power and transmitting information to base stations. In information center connected to paging network coordinates of car with locked engine are determined and number of on-makings of beacon type transmitter are recorded for subsequent billing. Car owner has transponder card carrying secret locking, beacon and billing codes, and digital storage contains identification code. Car is provided with unit for remote readout of identification code from transponder card for unlocking the engine.
