FIELD: hydraulic engineering; environment control. SUBSTANCE: sludge pond intended to prevent emergency spreading of polluting wastes dangerous for populated areas, enterprises, and/or environment has earth container 1 formed by levee 3 crossing terrain fall 4, two intercepting channels 5 terminating in inclined falls 6 in tail water of dike 3, and road 7 in the form of embankment 8 crossing fall 4 in tail water of dike 3 at certain distance from the latter to organize additional earth container 9. In layout, road 7 runs between dike 3 and inclined falls 6 within fall 4, and its embankment 8 is made blind or has tube with gate valve at outlet; height h of embankment 8 is found from expression Vi = F(h) ≥ Vout, where Vi is volume of additional earth container, as function F of road embankment height h; Vout is calculated volume of water-diluted wastes accidentally flowing out of sludge pond to tail water of levee. EFFECT: improved safety both in service and in storage due to accumulation of entire rated volume of emergency pollutants. 2 dwg
