FIELD: heat treatment of parts, possibly in machine engineering industry branch for strengthening working surfaces of wheels of rolling stock and rails. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of heating parts by passing electric current through contact members forced to heat treated surface by pressure; cooling heating zone. Surface is heat treated along stripe zones inclined by 30-90 degrees relative to edge of part and having width 3-20 mm. Interstripe spacing is equal to 2-12 mm at ratio of areas of hardened and non-hardened portions being 1 : (0.3-4). Width of stripe may be varied along it. EFFECT: reduced inner stresses, controlled wear resistance of heat treated surface. 4 cl, 2 dwg, 3 ex
