FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, and in particular to methods for surface treatment of friction units of mechanisms, and can be used in the engineering industry. A method for treating a railroad wheel flange includes conducting thermal cycling by pulsed electrical contact processing while passing a pulsed current through a moving electrode pressed against the flange surface to obtain hardened tape zones. With repeated passage of a pulsed current through the ridge pressed against the surface and the moving electrode, the formed hardened tape zones are overlapped with different values of hardness oscillations depending on the structure being formed, and the width and depth of the tape zone, as well as the step of overlapping the tape zones, is controlled by changing the speed of the electrode movement, current, pulse time and pause time.
EFFECT: increase in wear resistance of rubbing surfaces of tread and wheel flanges of rail transport, and also increase the service life of these products.
