FIELD: processes for manufacturing motor vehicle units such as internal combustion engines, compressor making technique, processes needing ring cutting. SUBSTANCE: at least one piston ring is fixed against axial motion and it is placed in such a way that its ends are inclined relative to plane of disc cutting tool. Piston ring and disc cutting tool have respectively positive and negative potential of technological electric current. Electrolyte is fed to working zone. Piston ring is fed radially relative to working surface of disc cutting tool and it is subjected to rotation and axial motion. Piston ring is separated at simultaneous electrochemical solution at temperature in cutting zone no more than temperature of conversion of pearlite to austenite. When piston ring is shifted to free space relative to disc cutting tool it is retracted to initial position. EFFECT: enhanced manufacturing possibilities of piston ring cutting process, increased service life period of piston rings and useful life of internal combustion engines. 2 dwg
