FIELD: catalytic production of hydrogen and carbon materials. SUBSTANCE: C1-C4 carbon gases are decomposed on metal-containing catalyst at temperature of 500 to 600 C followed by separation of gaseous decomposition products from carbon material formed on catalyst. Gaseous decomposition products are subjected to separation through binding hydrogen at contact with aromatic hydrocarbons in catalytic hydrogenation zone, after which bound hydrogen in form of cyclohexane hydrocarbons is separated from unreacted starting hydrocarbons which are later recirculated to decomposition zone. Cyclohexane hydrocarbons are directed to catalytic dehydrogenation zone where pure hydrogen is formed and dehydrogenation hydrocarbon products are returned to hydrogenation zone.
