FIELD: radioactive iodine conditioning or packing. SUBSTANCE: apatite used for holding iodine, including iodine 129, is presented by formula M10(XO4)6-6x(PO4)6xI2 (I), where M is Cd or Pb; X is V or As; I is radioactive iodine to be conditioned, and x presents value at which O г x is lower than unity. This iodine-containing apatite may be surrounded by apatite that does not contain iodine and functions as barrier. Iodine-containing apatite can be produced from solid iodine compound such as silver iodide or lead iodide reacting with compound presented by formula , where M, X, and x are same as given above and Y may present OH, F, Cl, or O1/2. Blocks obtained by using proposed process ensure effective and reliable long-time storage of iodine such as iodine 129. EFFECT: improved safety in radioactive iodine storage. 14 cl, 3 dwg
