FIELD: metallurgy, particularly, working of metal-base cutting tools; applicable in machine building, jewelry and construction industry and in instrumentation engineering. SUBSTANCE: method includes initial machining of body and final finishing of geometric shape of working surfaces; electric-spark short-pulse formation of wear-resistance coating 1-5 mm thick by alloying with ferroboron with fusing of body material and heat treatment. Besides, tool body is manufactured of low-carbon alloyed heat-resistant and stainless steels of ferrite, martensite and austenitic classes. Fusion in electric spark alloying ferroboron is effected to depth of 0.5 diameter of ferroboron. Heat treatment of tool body before electric spark alloying is carried out at cooling ratio of 0.5-5 C/s down to 550 C. Heat treatment of hardened tool is combined with oxynitration at 350-550 C.
