FIELD: laser technology. SUBSTANCE: soft diaphragm for lasers has dish with two windows of optically clear material located with clearance growing in thickness from axis of dish towards its periphery filled with working substance moderating intensity of laser radiation. Working substance is turbid medium presenting substance clear for laser radiation with refractive index μ which includes inhomogeneities with refractive index ≠μ scattering laser radiation. Optical inhomogeneities have dimensions 22ρ, with λ ≅ 2ρ < h0, where λ is wave length of laser radiation; ρ is characteristic radius of particle; ho is minimal thickness of clearance on axis of dish. Dish can have additional clearance filled with medium clear to laser radiation with refractive index close in value to μ. EFFECT: formation of soft diaphragm displaying smoothed transmission function with high contrast ensuring apodization of laser beams in wide spectral range from near ultraviolet to infrared ranges of lengths of waves and showing insufficient inherent absorption of transmitted laser radiation. 2 cl, 1 dwg
