FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves applying ultrasonic examination and measuring transverse sizes of pancreas head, body and tail under empty stomach condition and later, 1.5-3 h after physiological breakfast. Linear dimensions increments before and after taking meals are measured for making chronic pancreatitis diagnosis if the pancreas dimensions increase or reduction is within the limits of 5%. Reactive pancreatitis diagnosis is set if the dimensions become 6-15 % larger. The 16% growth in size is interpreted as pancreas response corresponding to norm. EFFECT: enhanced effectiveness in diagnosing pacreatitis in early reversible stages; no need in additional instrumental methods to be applied.
