FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to devices for cleaning and neutralizing exhaust gases and can be used in internal combustion engines, in oil producing and chemical industries and for cleaning gas effluents of industrial plants. Converter has housing with at least one gas inlet branch pipe and at least one gas outlet branch pipe, blocks placed inside housing across direction of gas flow and provided with great number of through channels with some channels being coated with catalyst. Each block is enclosed in holder made of heat-resistant perforated material. Holder enclosed block at least at end faces located across direction of gas flow. Holders with blocks are tightly fitted in housing. Single-layer gauze made of metal wire can be used as perforated material. Block position locks can be installed in housing before, between and after holders with blocks. Cross-like locks are rigidly secured in housing. Holes to let gases flow direction across direction of gas passage can be made in locks placed between blocks. Summary area of these holes in each lock equals from 0.3 to 0.9 of lock surface area. Enclosing of each block in holder, made and installed, as described above, in housing, provides possibility of expansion of blocks even as extreme operating conditions of internal combustion engines.
