FIELD: power engineering; stationary and mobile power plants. SUBSTANCE: internal combustion engine is a four-stroke diesel engine with at least one pair of cylinders 1 and 2 assembled coaxially (tube-in-tube) and accommodating peripheral piston 3 and central piston 4 fitted on common connecting rod 5. Cylindrical spool 7 is arranged in cylinder head 6. Spool 7 is mechanically coupled with crankshaft and is provided with gas passages 8 and combustion chamber 9. Reciprocating piston 10 moving in inner space of combustion chamber changes working volume of combustion chamber and engine compression ratio in range of 1:7 to 1:20. Piston 10 is in rigid contact with step system of cam mechanism 11 driven by crankshaft. Pistons of cylinders execute simultaneously (parallel) working and preparatory strokes of cycle, and working stroke of central piston is executed at each revolution of crankshaft. Diesel engine provides possibility of increasing weight filling of fuel charge 1.5-2 times. Provision of cutoff combustion chamber guarantees continuation of burning of working mixture in excess air medium, improves ecological characteristics of exhaust gases, enlarges operating capabilities in operation of different kinds of fuels, precludes knocking and smoking at idling. High compression ratio increases indicated efficiency and cuts down fuel consumption. Vibration is decreased as engine uses no valves.
