METHOD FOR PREPARATION OF PLANKS TO THEIR NATURAL DRYING Russian patent published in 2001 - IPC

FIELD: process of drying of wood, mainly of centre planks, may be widely applicable at wood- working plants in production of planks, furniture, houses, etc. SUBSTANCE: in the described method for preparation of planks for their natural drying the plank end are closed. The specific feature is in the fact that parts of the plank seams are closed in addition to the ends, the ends and the parts of the plank seams are closed with an aqueous emulsifying agent possessing adhesion with raw wood of the plank; the aqueous emulsifying agent possessing adhesion with raw wood of the plank is applied onto the external part of the plank seam in the form of a strip passing from the end to the end of the plank over the uncut annual growth rings of the external seam, and the aqueous emulsifying agent possessing adhesion with raw wood of the plank is applied onto the internal part of the plank seam in the form of a strip passing from the end to the end of the plank symmetrically to the strip applied to the external part of the seam. The so prepared wood and then dried by the natural method is nonhydroscopic, since it does not absorb moisture from ambient air. The method was tested on wood of the following species: pine, fir, oak, larch, maple, and cedar. The plank drying time for all the above species was on the average by 2 to 4 times shorter as compared with the traditional natural method for drying. The water content in the above species attained in the process of preparation and further natural drying aid not exceed 6%. EFFECT: reduced time of drying, enhanced depth of moisture extraction, prevented cracks of all kinds on plank seams, ends and edges. 1 dwg
