FIELD: hydraulic engineering; disposal of industrial wastes such as ash of thermal power stations; ore concentration tailings. SUBSTANCE: gravity-flow drain system has horizontal drain, drain well fully immersed in wastes and communicating within water intake section with horizontal drain through drain system and within foundation section, with outlet manifold; it also has water-permeable barrier that functions to keep wastes away from outlet manifold and is placed in foundation section of well. Well is filled with filter material whose filtration coefficient meets condition k≥Q/ω, where Q is rated water-flowrate of drain, ω is cross sectional area of water intake part of well. Drain sink is made in the form of dense filter material incorporating top of water intake part of well and communicating with horizontal drain. Barrier is, essentially, trash rack or cover passing perforated pipe. EFFECT: reduced cost, improved reliability, and facilitated maintenance of drain system. 4 cl, 4 dwg
