DEVICE TO PROTECT CONTACT WIRE FROM BURN-OUT Russian patent published in 2001 - IPC

FIELD: electrified railways. SUBSTANCE: device is designed for protection of contact wires from action of electric arc in air gaps. Device has screen strips secured on contact wire. These strips enclose wire from both sides. Their profile in lower part corresponds to slot in contact wire. Bolt fasteners of strips are also provided. Insulating unit of device is made in form of different-diameter tubes fitted on contact wire, smaller diameter tube being arranged in larger diameter tube on part of its length. Smaller diameter tube is butted between end of strip and dropper clamp found on contact wire and is arranged in larger diameter tube at a distance of 0.5-1.0 m. Butt joints of strips at different sides of wire are made with shift through at least two bolt joints. Projections made in upper part of strips provide tight fitting of strips to contact wire slot. Total length of strips is 5.5-6.5 m, length of larger diameter tube is 1.4-1.6 m, and that of smaller diameter tube is 5.5 - 6.5 m. EFFECT: improved reliability of device, increased designed distance between branches of air gap by 30- 40 % preventing distribution of electric arc. 5 cl, 4 dwg
