FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: described is process of carbonylation of alkylaliphatic alcohols, more particularly methanol or esters of alcohols in liquid phase using carbon monoxide at partial pressure of up to 7 kg/sq.cm. Process is carried out in the presence of rhodium catalyst, halide additive, e. g quaternary ammonium or phosphonium iodide, and limited amount of water. Manganese is used as rhodium catalyst stabilizer at manganese to rhodium molar ratio of (0.2-20):1. Manganese is converted into active form for accelerating reaction by contacting in with hydrogen. EFFECT: more efficient carbonylation method. 14 cl, 5 ex, 3 tbl
