FIELD: electrolysis of aluminum, possibly processes for firing hearth of aluminum cells. SUBSTANCE: heating temperature of carbonaceous lining of hearth is determined according to expression: t=100.3 •τ-7.14 τ2 +0.268 τ3- 0.00479 τ4+0.000032τ5, where t- temperature of surface of carbonaceous lining of hearth, C; τ= time period of firing, hours. Firing is realized at spreading along hearth periphery layer of low-temperature easy-to-melt aluminum pellets having thickness (3.5-7)cm while providing temperature gradient on surface of hearth lining in direction towards its periphery in range (1.7-2.6) C/cm and further lowering temperature gradient until 0 C/cm at period of sustaining final temperature of firing process. Method lowers deformation of carbon blocks, penetration of sodium into lining. EFFECT: increased useful time period of aluminum cell. 2 cl, 2 dwg
