FIELD: forestry and agricultural engineering. SUBSTANCE: root cutter has frame 1 with carrier wheels 2, plow beam 3 pivotally connected to frame 2 and provided with transverse bar carrying vertical working tools 5 and horizontal working tool 6. Subsoilers fixed on vertical working tools 5 are made in the form of flat hoes having rigid tips and flexible wings. Working tools 5 are provided with thrusts preventing wings from being damaged in the process of withdrawal of working tool from soil. Horizontal working tool 6 provided with sharpened lower edge is fixed so that rear cutting angle is equal to zero or negative. Root cutter is equipped with spring-type devices for applying additional pressure to working tools in the process of penetration into soil, as well as for providing stable depth at which roots are cut. Additional pressure applying devices have bracket 10 mounted on frame 1, bar 11, spring 12 and adjusting nuts 13,14. Such construction enhances reliable penetration of working tools into soil and improves root cutting quality by providing adequate angle of penetration of horizontal working tool into soil, reduced penetration path and stable advancement of working tools at predetermined cutting depth.
