FIELD: paper-and-pulp industry. SUBSTANCE: watersoluble biologically-active carboxymethylazomethyne derivatives of cellulose with general formula of repeating unit: C6H8-xO5-4-(NR)y(CH2COOH)x, wherein x>0.13, y>0, x+y<3, are prepared by interaction of hydroxycellulose (oxidized group level no higher than 29%) with water- or organic solvent-soluble amino compound with general formula NH2-R, wherein R residue is selected from 5- amino-1,2,4-triazole, alpha-aminopyridine, aminobenzene, and alphaaminosuccinic acid, to produce azomethyne derivatives, which are then subjected to carboxymethylation. EFFECT: achieved production of biologically-active cellulose derivatives with degree of substitution 5-6 for azomethynes and near 14 for carboxymethyls. 21 cl, 1 tbl, 6 ex
