FIELD: paper-and-pulp industry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to preparing microcrystalline cellulose appropriate for use as filler in chemical and pharmaceutical industry, as sorbent and filtration material, etc. Original cellulose with whiteness not exceeding 65% is treated in two steps with intermediary extraction with alkali solution. In the first step, crude cellulose is subjected to hydrolysis and simultaneous bleaching. Further, material is additionally bleached with chlorine dioxide in presence of sodium hydrocarbonate solution. EFFECT: decreased requirements for whiteness of raw material. 1 tbl
