FIELD: medical engineering. SUBSTANCE: device has driving unit for moving rod with blade and unit for transforming movement into signal mounted in casing with support. Unit for measuring cornea thickness is fixed on the casing to measure current cornea thickness in cutting zone. The blade is introduced into cornea to a depth that is less than that measured by the measuring unit by a value programmed to be left as residual cornea thickness. The driving unit and transforming units are connected to control unit. Unit for measuring cornea thickness is manufactured as a whole with support unit. Ultrasonic unit is optionally usable as the unit for measuring cornea thickness. The unit has internal canal for rod and blade. The blade hides inside of the instrument when thickness having been measured is less than predefined minimum cornea thickness near the optic zone. Acoustic speaker unit enables surgeon to obtain information concerning the current cornea thickness and device state when carrying out operation.
