FIELD: mining; applicable in roof control in mining of gently dipping and steep thin and very thin and medium thickness beds without continuous presence of men in breakage face. SUBSTANCE: method includes installation of a few rows of support from soft shells located inside supporting members; unloading and withdrawal of shells to drift after lowering of roof onto supporting members. Advance of face pneumatic support is follows by additional installation into worked out space of yielding support from soft shells located inside supporting members with distance between rows equaling 2/3L, where L is caving step of main roof. Soft shells are unloaded and withdrawn to drift after joint of supporting member bases. In this case, base of supporting member is turned with its large area to covering or underlying bed rocks with lower ultimate strength for bending in. Yielding support has row of soft shells in supporting members, flexible mounting appliance connected with pulling ropes, snatch blocks and winches. Each supporting member is made to two U-shaped bases entering each other with turnedover lower base and secured to each other from both sides by pins for motion of upper base relative to lower one in height. Ends of upper base have yielding end pieces. Internal height of it is larger than height of soft shell in folded state. Lower base has holding members in form of uncoupled clamps embracing endless branch of pulling chain having stop.
