FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves arranging scalpel so that its outer side surface adheres to palm surfaces of index, middle and ring fingers at an angle of 30 deg to plane to be dissected; positioning little finger behind ring finger; commensurating length of free cutting part of scalpel with cutting depth and fixing scalpel in mentioned position by first finger, with palm surface of first finger being pressed to scalpel middle surface. Method is recommended for usage in laparotomy, in particular, in cases when good visualization of operative field and adequate controlling of cutting depth are required, for example, in the case of excessively developed subcutaneous fat.
