FIELD: inorganic compounds technologies. SUBSTANCE: sodium chloride is freed from calcium and magnesium ions in presence of flocculant: hydrolyzed polyacrylamide. The latter is prepared by interaction of polyacrylamide with sodium hydroxide and vat residue from propylene glycol production rectification stage. The residue mainly consists of tripropylene glycol and also contains 3-5% propylene glycol and 23-26% dipropylene glycol.
