FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: described is the method of preparing 2-methyl-2- 2-oxopropyl)-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl methyl methacrylate using acetyl acetone and acid catalyst. Acetyl acetone is made to react with glycerol in the presence of amidoalkane sulfonic acid RC(O)NHC(CH3)CH2SO3H, as acid catalyst wherein R is CH3 or -CH=CH2 in amount of 0.1-0.5 mol.% of glycerol and inert azeotrope-forming agent which withdraws water, and resulting 2-methyl-2-(2- oxopropyl)-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl-methanol product is isolated by neutralization of aminoalkane sulfonic acid with sodium hydroxide as molar ratio of 1:92-2.4), respectively, followed by distillation of light fraction (acetyl acetone, and solvent) and is subjected to alkoholysis with methanol, and methyl methacrylate is subsequently transesterified with intermediate product in the presence of polymerization inhibitor, inert azeotrope-forming agent which withdraws methanol, and alkali catalyst such as sodium 2-methyl-2- (2-oxopropyl)-1,3-dioxolane-4-yl-methoxide prepared from 2-methyl-2-(2-oxopropyl)-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl-methanol in amount of 5-25% to be transesterified and sodium hydroxide at molar ratio of (10:20):1, respectively, in hydrocarbon during heating. EFFECT: increased yield of product and simplified process.
