FIELD: metallurgy, namely controlled cooling of rolled pieces at heat treatment in rolling mill line. SUBSTANCE: apparatus includes row of successively arranged sections having jet, cooling chamber, cut-off unit joined with system for draining waste cooling agent and guide for equalizing temperature. Each cooling chamber has at least one cut-off unit arranged in addition along said chamber beginning from 0.1 of its total length. Said unit includes systems for taking part of cooling agent and draining waste cooling agent, slide valve with casing separated by two cavities with the aid of member moving along lengthwise axis of chamber and having guide whose end portions may form with casing straight-flow and opposite-flow nozzles. Each cavity is joined through cut-off valve with system for taking part of cooling agent. Cavity with opposite-flow nozzle is joined with system for draining waste cooling agent provided with draining valve. It is possibly to make system for taking part of cooling agent in the form of ducts in walls of cooling chamber in front of local restriction of its inner duct. Separating member may be in the form of annular membrane secured along its outer contour to casing or it may be in the form of piston arranged in cylinder of casing. Apparatus provides possibility for discrete regulation of length of cooling chamber and therefore for controlling relation of length values of zone for cooling and zone for equalizing temperature.
