FIELD: ferrous metallurgy, in particular, plastic working of metals. SUBSTANCE: method involves heating cooler with heat of movable rolled metal by transporting cooler above rolled metal in tubular members made from high heat conductive material with well developed surface to increase cooler temperature by value equal to (0.045-0.055)Tr-tin, where Tr is temperature of rolled metal surface at outlet end of deformation zone, C; tin is temperature of cooler at inlet end of tubular members, C; supplying heated cooler to roll outer surface lengthwise of roll barrel onto surface portion remote from deformation zone inlet end by 10-15 deg in direction of movement of rolled metal. Method allows temperature difference amplitude over roll surface to be reduced. EFFECT: increased efficiency and improved strength of rolls. 1 tbl, 1 ex
