FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: method involves preparing chips for briquetting; filling mold with chips; compacting chips by pressing to predetermined density and caking by delivering electric current pulse through compacted chips in direction perpendicular to pressing direction. Electrodes used in the process are fixed on walls of pressing and caking chamber of mold. Method allows electric current pulse to be employed to maximum extent for compacting chips, preferably titanium chips, at reduced pressing force applied to chips and decreased mechanical loading of punch. EFFECT: simplified method, increased efficiency by reliable electrical connection and reduced power consumption. 2 dwg
