FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: metal chips are crushed till elements of two fractions are obtained; fractions are mixed; cleaning of the mixture and briquetting by pressing is performed. When the crushing process is being performed, one of two fractions is obtained in the form of a polygon with the size of 0.2-0.6 mm, and elements of the second fraction have lamellar shape with the length of 20-50 mm. Fractions are mixed in weight ration of the first fraction to the second fraction of 4:1-8:1; pressing of the obtained mixture is performed in the direction perpendicular to the briquette long axis. Then, the briquette is subject to sintering in a reducing atmosphere.
EFFECT: improving strength characteristics of briquette material and melting efficiency when melting the material using an electroslag melting method.
