FIELD: textile industry. SUBSTANCE: method involves performing mechanical defibration of short linen fibers, tow or shaken out fibers; providing cooking in the presence of complexone based on sodium salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid or on the base of derivative of ethylidenediphosphonic acid and reducer, such as antraquinone acids, nitrogen-containing and sulfur-containing reducers used separately or in various combinations; souring; whitening; washing; squeezing; mellowing; drying and combing. Fiber is soured only after cooking. Whitening is conducted by means of hydrogen peroxide in alkali medium. Mellowing is performed in single pass on wet fiber mellower. Method is used for production of medical batting from raw flax material.
