FIELD: powder metallurgy, possibly manufacture of magnetically soft materials with enhanced properties at high and low frequencies. SUBSTANCE: powder with low content of oxygen includes particles of base powder being practically pure iron particles with oxygen- and phosphorus-containing coating. Oxygen content in powder is higher than that of base powder no more than by 0.2% mass; relation O/P measured according to ESCA method consists 15-2; thickness of coating measured by AEC method is no more than 100 nm. Method for making powder comprises steps of preparation of base powder containing iron powder obtained by spraying with water or powder of sponge iron; treating base powder with solution of phosphoric acid in organic solvent at spraying such solution onto base powder during mixing process; drying powder.
