FIELD: measurement of insulation resistance of rail line. SUBSTANCE: method consists in the fact that an AC signal is applied to the rail line at its one end, and the voltage and its phase-shift are preliminarily measured at least in four states of the rail line insulation resistance in the other end, two of which are extreme ones, and a system of algebraic equations is solved: , where U21,U22,U23,U24,ϕ21, ϕ22, ϕ23, ϕ24, are voltages and voltage phase-shifts in four states of rail line insulation resistance, respectively, Rins1(min),Rins2,Rins3,Rins4(max), is the respective rail line insulation resistances, Rins1(min),Rins4(max), are the extreme values of rail line insulation resistance, coefficients K0,K1,K2,K3, are determined, and then the current values of voltage and voltage phase-shift U2,ϕ2, are measured, and the actual value of rail line insulation resistance is determined by formula Rif = K0+K1U2+K2ϕ2+K3U2ϕ2.
