FIELD: automotive industry; protection of automobile from unauthorized use. SUBSTANCE: it is anticipated that automobile antitheft system has main transponder switch for programming spare transponder switches, spare transponder switch and immobilizer with transponder switch polling device. First code of main switch is held in immobilizer storage. According to proposed method, when entering programming mode, legitimacy of main switch is checked by comparing first code entered in main switch storage with code in immobilizer storage which must coincide, and at programming spare switch code is entered in immobilizer storage and spare switch storage. Peculiarity of proposed method is that second code of main switch is entered in main switch storage and immobilizer storage. At unlocking the system, legitimacy of main switch is determined by comparing second code in main switch storage with code in immobilizer storage which should coincide.
