FIELD: preparation of aromatic agent and semi-finished product for organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: method comprises oxidation of alpha- pinene with selenium dioxide to distill off highly volatile products with steam. Oxidation is carried out at temperature from 70 to 85 C and alpha-pinene to selenium dioxide molar ratio of 1:0.25-0.6 under constant stirring by introducing alcoholic solution of selenium dioxide in portions of 0.1-0.5 ml. The resulting mixture is then filtered and, after distilling off volatile products from filtrate, is reduced with alkali metal boron hydride of myrtenal to myrtenol in the resulting mixture at myrtenol to reducing agent of 1:0.25-0.4. Reduction is generally carried out by direct and inverted dropwise mixing of reaction mixture with alcoholic or aqueous alcoholic solution of sodium boron hydride or potassium boron hydride.
