FIELD: chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of synthesis of cis-verbenol used for control of harmful insects and as an intermediate product for synthesis of valuable perfume and medicinal substances, for example, citral, menthol and others. Method involves the reduction of verbenone with sodium boron hydride in hydroxyl-containing solvents an aqueous ethanol or isopropanol. Usually sodium boron hydride modified with cerium salts is used in the mole ratio verbenone : sodium boron hydride : cerium salt = 1 : (0.5-1.5) : (0.1-1.0), respectively. As a hydroxyl-containing solvent 40% or 96% an aqueous ethanol is used and process is carried out at temperature below 0 C.
