FIELD: polymer production. SUBSTANCE: petroleum polymer resin is prepared by preliminarily treatment (2-4 h at 80-100 C) of fraction 130-200 C of liquid products of straight-run gasoline pyrolysis in presence of petroleum polymer resin obtained through radical polymerization followed by further polymerization of fraction 130-140 C for 2-4 h in presence of variable-valence metal salts taken in proportions from 0.01 to 0.05% based on the weight of fraction of liquid pyrolysis products. Resin can be, in particular, used in production of drying oils, varnishes, and paints as well as substitute of expensive and scar colophony in papermaking. EFFECT: enabled conduction of process under mild conditions and simplified procedure. 1 tbl
