FIELD: optimization of moisture trapping process in counterflow chimney0type and vertical cooling towers. SUBSTANCE: cooling tower water trap has lattice of vertical U-shaped plates with rectilinear vertical end sections engageable with plates; middle rectilinear inclined sections are provided between vertical sections; radii of engagement of end sections may be similar and/or different; they ratio ranges from 0.5 to 1.5; radii of engagement of end sections and radius of engagement of middle sections may be similar and/or different and their ratio ranges from 0.2 to 1.0; angles of inclination of middle sections to vertical may be similar and/or may be different and may be equal to 15-75 deg. ; ratio of length of end sections ranges from 0.5 to 1.5 and they may and/or may not lie in one vertical plane; ratio of length of end section to length of middle section ranges from 0.1 to 0.8 and ratio of width of plate profile to its height ranges from 0.25 to 0.8. EFFECT: enhanced rigidity of plates and lattice as a whole; reduced aerodynamic drag of water trap; increase of efficiency by 10 to 15 %. 3 dwg
