FIELD: railway transport; vehicle couplers. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to railway vehicle couplers with similar-type coupling parts and it is designed for locking gears of couplers required for automatic coupling of cars. Proposed mechanical coupler has two coupling heads with locking gears in form of spring-loaded bars for engagement with guide members. Spring-loaded bar of each lock is made for engagement with guide member common for both coupling heads. Guide member is secured, coaxially to axis of coupler, on any of coupling heads by means of spring-loaded bar, each bar being furnished with separate release mechanism. Released mechanism is made in form of screw pair consisting of threaded shank of bar and nut provided with ring stop for spring, whose opposite end thrusts against bottom of stop cup secured on housing of coupling head. EFFECT: improved reliability of coupler, reduced overall dimensions, mass, labor input and cost of manufacture. 3 dwg
