FIELD: operations for assembling pistons of internal combustion engines, possibly restoration of pistons. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of making in piston body groove with trapezoidal cross section whose small base is groove bottom having smooth transitions to its end sides being lateral sides of trapezium; making small base of trapezium in the form of straight line or at least with one protrusion in mean portion; placing insert in the form of non-slit ring on platform and forcing ring to it; introducing insert placed on platform into piston groove by means of cam press; then removing platform and pressing-in insert to piston groove by several stages; in all pressing-in stages applying to insert effort uniformly distributed along its circumference. Method provides reliable joining of piston with reinforcing insert for pistons made of deformed aluminium alloys as well as for pistons cast of aluminium alloys.
