FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves making incision behind the external malleolus and finding the sural nerve in the wound. The nerve is mobilized in distal direction. Instrument is used which operating end is connected to casing with hinged joint, removable working head opening into two halves. Inlet opening is on the instrument axis and has half-ring cross-section at some distance from the guiding plane having streamline shape. The instrument is opened, placed under the sural nerve, closed and moved along the nerve in proximal direction in the subcutaneous tunnel until hindrance occurs. The second skin incision is done. The sural nerve is found in the wound and its two branches. The instrument is taken away. Each branch is placed into the instrument, separated and cut off. Then distal end of the sural nerve is cut off, and the sural nerve is removed as a whole with its two branches. EFFECT: enhanced effectiveness of treatment; reduced risk of traumatic complications. 2 cl, 6 dwg
