FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method includes charging, heating, smelting, and reducing charge containing, among other components, briquets prepared from iron-containing material and binding agent. Briquets are preliminarily roasted, and, as binding agent, system SiO2-CaO-Na2O-Al2O3 is used which, under roasting, forms together with iron oxides a gasproof frame inside which reduction processes occur. Assembly is additionally charged by molten metal additives as briquets' heating source. Carbon-containing material is introduced into briquet in quantity determined by carbon to iron weight ratio 0.3 to 1.0, particle size of carbon-containing material being 10 to 100 times larger than minimum size of iron-containing material.
